BIO:
Since 2001 Washington DC's Bleeder Resistor has been
crafting their own original brand of hardcore punk rock.
Taking a cue from early punk heroes like DAG NASTY,
BAD RELIGION and 7 SECONDS, they inject energetic hardcore
riffs with melodies that stick in your head. Layers
of brooding guitar noise ride waves of shifting rythm,
straddling the gap between modern hardcore acts like
STRIKE ANYWHERE and the noisy power pop of SONIC YOUTH
and SEBADOH. Their new e.p. is a testament to those
who long for high energetic and melodic punk rock. 6
songs that get the heart pounding and the chest pumpin'.
REVIEWS: "What's
fast, aggressive, and sounds like a cross between KID
DYNAMITE and THE LAWRENCE ARMS? Your answer is the new
Bleeder Resistor record. This is straight-ahead hardcore/punk
with pop sensibility. It's refreshing to hear an aggressive
band that isn't jumping on the metal-emo-core bandwagon
that seems to have plagued the entire underground music
scene. I'm one of those people who misses the old Kid
Dynamite, and hearing a record like this satisfies my
appetite-if even only for a few minutes." - SKRATCH
MAGAZINE
"Washington DC's BLEEDER RESISTOR
have been a fairly active local group in the past couple
of years and while a full-length recording has eluded
them, they have assembled their most advanced material
yet with this Matt Squire recorded, six song EP Sixteen.
What has intrigued me from the start with this band
is that their influences are wholly from another era.
... we're talking early BAD RELIGION and DAG NASTY.
Fast, melodic, aggressive, but not "macho," BLEEDER
RESISTOR accurately capture the intensity and passion
of early hardcore without its roughest edges. Lead vocalist/guitarist
Jeff Forbes (formerly of LATCHKEY) bears strong similarities
in style to Thomas of STRIKE ANYWHERE, but with a more
subdued delivery. Sixteen takes a couple of songs to
get going, but the band really hits its stride on the
third track, "Dead Cities," with its insidious guitar
licks and traditional "whoaohhhh!" backing vocals. Politically
charged, and personally smoothed over, BLEEDER RESISTOR
are much like the firebrands of DC from 20 years ago.
Angered by what surrounds them, but smart enough to
avoid cornball slogans. "Nothing's Changed" screams
with the lyrics "You call this the DC system / You call
this diplomacy, but West's side's so easy / We'd all
like to walk proud / Say what you want about a starving
nation / We call this a war machine that goes out and
comes in again and won't drop in value." Sixteen is
great hardcore punk, it's as simple as that." - PASTEPUNK.COM
"I must agree with AMP and Skratch
Magazines when I say that this is an EP worth your listening
time. Bleeder Resistor blends a few different sounds,
everything from the Lawrence Arms and Strike Anywhere,
to the earliest A.F.I. and Pennywise records. Each song
reminds me of the punk rock we listened to in the mid
1990s, but they carry the catchiness from more recent
popular punkish outfits. Chanty backup vocals and quick
snare drumming keep the audience throwing its fists
high. The sounds a reminiscent underground fill the
air with intensity in this 6 song album. Basement Records
better hang on to these guys, I could see Fat Wreck
picking these guys up any day." - SAN
