GRAVE FOR THE
FIREFLIES
"Bitten"
cd
(br-036)
Like a shotgun on the dance floor,
GRAVE FOR THE FIREFLIES
are blasting their way on the barely breathing Southern
California punk/hardcore scene to the delight of the
few believers. No, this is not fashion punk. Grave for
the Fireflies are as real as true punk/hardcore can
get. Destroyed amplifiers, guitars through windows,
and blown out vocal chords, Grave for the Fireflies
and their gang of followers, the “Death Kids” are here
to behead the music worlds version of “punk” with sounds
inspired by legendary bands like BLACK FLAG, THE
NERVE AGENTS, MISFITS, CIRCLE JERKS and THE MURDER
CITY DEVILS. Enter their debut full length album
“Bitten”, filled with 11 songs of dark, desperate and
raging punk/hardcore. Dirty guitars, pounding bass,
loud vocals and smashing drums all bleed into one of
the best underground records of the year. Songs of desperation,
songs about friends, songs about their town and
songs about revenge are some of the topics that fill
the dark subject matter of “Bitten”. Hardcore kids,
punk rockers and goths have all embraced the charm and
charisma of Grave for the Fireflies. This band hopes
to be the torch bearer of bringing back a West Coast
punk/hardcore revival, and make Southern California
the true heart of hardcore again.
REVIEW:
Holy shit. That's the only thing I could think when
I put this CD in. Holy shit, this is so good. Holy shit,
I'm f*cking stoked about this band. Holy shit, why did
it take so long for someone to put out a CD like this?
I'm declaring now that this will be one of the top-5
CDs of 2005, without a doubt. Straightforward hardcore
punk rock, taking cues from the likes of BLACK FLAG
and THE NERVE AGENTS, which is pretty good company
to be in, if you ask me. Fast, furious, pounding drums,
intensely solid bass, and spastic guitars set the stage
for one of the best spit-in-your-face-don't-give-a-fuck
vocal approaches I've heard in years. Lyrics that deal
with politics, zombies, vampires, and best of all, the
stupid haircuts and makeup that fills the scene today.
And I quote "boys kiss the boys to impress the girls,
Put some guy pants on, Cut your f*cking hair, F*ck your
fashion scene." GENIUS! There's not one thing about
this CD that doesn't impress me. DEATH KIDS UNITE!
