SPIDER, THE NIPPLES,
THE DYSFUNCTIONALS & CIVET
"Worth Every Minute vol. 1"
7" purple vinyl
(br-039)
Basement Records' introduces
it's newest compilation series, "Worth Every Minute"
vol. 1. After the very successful Radio Disaster comp.
series (with literally all of the first 9 volumes selling
out) we've decided to take on another new approach to
the same old "Various Artists" release. Just like we
revitalized the punk rock world with the Radio Disasters
we hope to do the same introducing new and exciting
bands or maybe some old fav's with rare or unreleased
tracks. The kicker, they will only be available on 7".
So now we're going to find out where all the real punk
rockers have been hiding, dust of them turntables and
enjoy the intense, fast, ear splitting sounds of THE
DYSFUNCTIONALS, THE NIPPLES, SPIDER & CIVET.
Side A starts of with an unreleased
track from Riverside, CA's the Dysfunctionals, fast,
energetic, explosive, you pick the adjective but we
know that it will get that needle bouncing off the record
quick style. Second is an early demo version of a Nipples
song that will be released on their upcoming full length,
the version quickly gets the speakers bouncing and before
you know it, side A is over. Side B will quickly tear
you a new one as Spider's
remixed and remastered version of New Junk II will show
why Long Beach, CA has been a breeding ground for masterful
punk rock. Adding to that proof is another band from
the LBC namely Civet. Featuring the track "End on Me"
that was only released on their self-titled, self-released,
self-ditro'd cd. Now you'll be able to feel Ms. Liza
Graves and her batch of beautiful young misfits vibrating
through a turntable the way any good record does. Stay
Tuned for vol. 2...........
REVIEW:
Ahh...the compilation 7", is there anything better?
Fuck no, this is my favourite format and what a collection
this first volume of 'Worth Every Minute' is. This is
the new series of comps from Basement that follow the
'Radio Disaster' sequence and as much as those CDs rule
you just can't beat wax comps. It's such a different
approach to the punk comp...I mean the 'Radio Disaster'
comps have 30-odd bands on each volume but this only
has 4 bands so it's a totally different thing and it's
great to see Basement take it on because they fuckin
nailed the CD comps no doubt about it and it's certainly
gonna go that way with these 7" comps if they all continue
like this one. The 4 bands on here are THE NIPPLES,
CIVET, THE DYSFUNCTIONALS and SPIDER and
not only do you get these sick, sick bands on here,
each track is special because THE DYSFUNCTIONALS
is previously unreleased, THE NIPPLES track is
an early demo, the SPIDER track is a new remixed
version and the CIVET track is a rarity because
it's from their self-titled CD that they put out themselves
and was only available through the band. Fucking great
comp and if these are as prolific as the 'Radio Disaster'
series than it's actually worth getting a turntable
for if you don't got one already...hang your head in
shame if you don't but there's still time to fix things...
